| FIRD was first established in 2004 as Kwera Rural Development Initiative (KWERUDI) to help women and children who were infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and unending LRA was in northern Uganda that raged on for 20 years and made many children and women poor and psychologically traumatized. In 2006, the name of the organization changed when the scope of work widened from only serving the KWERA community but to serve the entire Lango sub-region. In the last 6 years, the organization has attracted partnership from donors such as ; African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF),United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR),Cooperation Italian Nord Sud (CINS),UNICEF,EU through Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Project (NUREP) program ,GTZ,NORAD,War child and Teachers without borders to implement a number of projects. | ![]() |

Governance: FIRD has a Board of Directors (BOD), which is the top policy making body, comprising of 9 members (3 women and 6 men). The organization has an established secretariat with 4 full time qualified professional staff and some local and international volunteers. |

Organization’s Objectives
Ø To sensitize and train rural communities on socio-economic issues that causes poverty and underdevelopment, with special focus on Human Rights, food security, environment, conflicts,Gender Mainstreaming and HIV/AIDS.
Ø To conduct comprehensive research and disseminate information on means of improving rural livelihoods and human rights in the community.
Ø Promote the establishment of income generating activities among women and other vulnerable groups in the community through micro and small-scale enterprises
Ø To liaise and work in partnership with other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs),donors and Government Institutions through lobbying and advocacy to ensure sustainable rural development
Ø To provide emergency support services to vulnerable communities
